CY7C68013A USB

                                    Cypress CY7C68013A EZ-USB FX2LP

Before I start I have decided to create this Blog because I post a comment in another blog with useful information and the administrator decided not to post it, no sure what was his agenda! Never mind you will find it here!

                                                 Board Schematics

I've got a board from Hong Kong which has got on board a Cypress CY7C68013A.

The exact chip on it is CY7C68013A - 56PVXC Datasheet

The price was about 12 pounds, there was cheaper but this people reply your emails so I decided to get it from there!

When It came it has an address  ZHY express but it looks like its a postal office!

I believe its manufacture by lcsoft (28Dec2011 the link works) I tried to buy from there before I've got it from Ebay (its cheaper) but I've found it difficult! If you have found a way to do it (buying direct from lcsoft) please let me know!

I have the support file that came with it if you needed!

The chip description is:

Controller Family/Series  Core Size  Program Memory Size  RAM M Size
EZ-USB FX2LP                        8bit                   16K                               16KB

No. of I/O's   CPU Speed    Oscillator Type    No. of Timers  Peripherals
24                       48MHz           External                         3                        Timer

Embedded Interface Type  Digital IC Case Style  Supply Voltage Range
I2C, USART, USB                      SSOP                                  3V to 3.6V

Operating Temperature Range  No. of Pins   Core Processor
-40°C to +85°C                                     56                        8051

I wanted to buy the chip to make my own board but the chip on its own from the following distributors are:
               Qt        Price
Farnell = 1-     £15.16     the cheapest is (CY7C68013A-100AXC on 28Dec2011 for £6.27 with 40 IO this sounds better value for money)

RS has not got the chip but it has one  at £6.27 with QFN EP package which sounds better better price)

digikey = 1 £10.95  (you could get it to £6.34603 but you will have to buy 5.000 units)

(I will stop searching for distributors now but please keep looking and help to post more distributors)

The all point on this was even I buy the board to take the components out I still wining! In the worse case the chip was faulty the value of the board and the rest of components could not make me lose!

One more important thing I will be concentrating on Linux (Ubuntu) for the time being!

Let post something useful:

I plugged the board as is came and on terminal I did the following:

command: dmesg

usb 2-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10
usb 2-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

command: lsusb
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 0925:3881 Lakeview Research

command: sudo lsusb -s 002:010 -v (notice that 002 is for the bus and 010 for the Device it may change in your system)

go to this link for result: lsusb -s 002:010

(I didn't do it in this order but I think you should)

Power down in the switch (SW1)

Create a file z70_usbfx2.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d

File content:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", ATTR{idVendor}=="04b4", ATTR{idProduct}=="8613", GROUP="plugdev", MODE="0660"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b4", ATTRS{idProduct}=="8613", DRIVER=="usbtest", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo -n %k> %S%p/driver/unbind'"

check you are on group plugdev (under user tool)

download this file cycfx2prog-0.47.tar.gz

Unzip it on local folder

go to the folder and do the following:
make sure you have (libusb, cycfx2prog, sdcc, fxload)

Now removed jumper J1 (which is the power for the AT24C128  "plane English" removed the power of memory)

Power back again on sw1

command: lsusb
Bus 002 Device 011: ID 04b4:8613 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C68013 EZ-USB FX2 USB 2.0 Development Kit

command: sudo lsusb -s 002:011 -v
go to this link for result: sudo lsusb -s 002:011 -v

now make sure you are in the unzip local files and run:

command: sudo make run (for The 8051 writes a hello world message to a memory location we can read)

cycfx2prog prg:hello.ihx run delay:100 reset dram:0x1000,37
Using ID 04b4:8613 on 002.011.
Putting 8051 into reset.
Programming 8051 using "hello.ihx".
Putting 8051 out of reset.
Delay: 100 msec
Putting 8051 into reset.

I think I am going to stop here! At the moment this prove you board is working :-)

I am planing to do more work on this board so keep an eyes on this page!

This is a rush work so there may be mistakes (spelling) and because I did all this about 4 days ago I may have missed something.

You feedback is welcome I have post some of the references too feel free to have a look!

I have taken me 4.10 hours to create this blog (plus the hours to figure all this out)! So the best you can do multiply by the double and do something you are good at for 8.2 hours on my interest field and share it with me! :-)

  1. Have You really get compiled cycfx2prog-0.47.tar.gz without any errors??

  2. 4 years everyone keeping eyes on Your blog. Nothing.
There is explanation why administrator decided not to post it on his blog. There is information about information. And without real information about subj.

  3. Beware! This board is dangerous to your USB ports - no 22R resistors on data lines, no 1.5k on D+, no ESD protection, ground is disconnected by SW1.
